Wellbeing and Safeguarding
What safeguarding looks like at Middle Barton School
Middle Barton Primary School is committed to all aspects of safeguarding and to promoting the welfare and well-being of all children.
Safeguarding is a collective responsibility for every adult in our school. We collaborate closely with external agencies to maintain rigorous protocols for identifying and supporting any child at risk of or experiencing harm
Recruitment
We follow rigorous safer recruitment procedures to ensure every adult in our school is suitable to work with children. This includes mandatory DBS checks and comprehensive background checks for all staff and volunteers, as required by law.
School Curriculum
Our school provides a safe, caring, positive and stimulating environment that promotes the social, physical and moral development of the individual child free from discrimination or bullying. The curriculum is designed to ensure opportunities for children to develop the skills they need to recognise and stay safe from abuse. Through SCARF children learn about a range of safeguarding topics- https://www.coramlifeeducation.org.uk/scarf
Children know that they can approach any of the adults in school if they are worried and that they will receive a consistent supportive response. In assemblies, safeguarding discussions are had on a variety of topics so children know what to do and who to talk to if they, or their peers feel unsafe.
Child protection
While safeguarding creates a universal culture of safety, Child Protection is the focused, statutory process used to protect individual children identified as suffering, or at risk of, significant harm. We maintain rigorous internal procedures that dictate exactly how staff must respond to, record, and report concerns to ensure swift and effective intervention.
