Willows Class Trip to Chedworth Roman Villa
Back
Chedworth Roman Villa is a fascinating place that’s survived for over 1,400 years. It had mosaic floors that showed each season. It was found in 1864 by a man named James Farrer, he was walking his dog, the dog started to dig a hole in search of a rabbit but to his surprise he found tesserae. He discovered a Roman bath house with heated floors. They made a shrine to pray to the water Goddess nymphs.

We went to Chedworth Roman Villa and went on a lovely tour! We discovered some very fancy jewellery and we played some Roman games. Romans were very clever and I found the facts very interesting. I loved when we saw the sacred pond. We made magnetic mosaics and other fun activities. We loved the bath house, I never knew they had heating for their hot tub. We sat on Roman toilets and looked around the museum. The Romans even had sponges to wipe there bottom if they were wealthy.

In the first part of our tour, we saw where the Romans used to go to the toilet, (which was right next to the kitchen). On the second part of our tour we went to see a corridor of mosaics. Next we went to visualise the dining room, which had beautiful mosaics of the four seasons. After that we journeyed up to the last room of the Villa, which was where we were told the story behind Chedworth Roman Villa. It was about a man trying to find meat, instead, he found tessarea, the stones from a mosaic. We went to the classroom, where we completed lots of fun activities. Next we got to sit on Roman toilets.
